Experimental Photo on Clay: The Basics (online course)

Fall 2025 Course
Dates: September 3 – November 19, 2025
Day/Time: Wednesdays, 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM on Zoom
Level: Beginning – Intermediate
Instructor: Anne Eder

You may have heard about the exciting things going on in the Experimental Photography on Clay class. Over the years and iterations of this course, nearly every photographic process you can think of has been thrown at the clay surface with some truly unique results! Many of the original students have stayed on, and as things became more complex it became harder for beginners to join and keep up. That’s why we are now offering an intro class that will feature the tried-and-true processes, those that have consistently worked well and offer a chance to get some of the photo basics under your belt before tackling the advanced class, which will return in the spring semester. This course will help you to understand analog processes that transition well to various clay surfaces from raw to fully fired. These processes offer a different look than screen printing or decals, because the image is made with light and sits inside the clay substrate, not just on the surface.

Note: this is an online-only course and does not include access to the Ceramics Program facility. Registration will begin Monday, July 28, 2025 at 10:00am.
