Preview of Application Questions

Please take time to read through and contemplate these questions before filling out the application form.

  • Short Artist Bio (include affiliations with any student organizations, arts organizations or institutions.)
  • Artist Statement (indicate your philosophy of art-making and/or the origins of this particular work)
  • Project Title & Artistic Concept
  • Describe the project's primary materials and scale
  • Are the materials you are making this artwork out of durable and intended for outdoor display? 
  • Do you have prior experience making something out of these materials? 
  • What is the anchoring plan for your design? 
    For example, describe in detail: if you are utilizing sandbags, how many and how are they attached? If you are using stakes, please indicate how many and the style of stake you are using. Any other installation securing needs and methods should be identified here. 
  • Will you be able to assemble the piece in its entirety before the actual exhibition?
  • Your installation will be on view in an outdoor setting that is quite expansive and has many large trees that compete visually. How will your piece command the space, or not get lost in such a large, outdoor environment?
    Some ways a piece can command space are:
    Scale
    Color
    Light
    Sound
    Interactivity
  • Your artwork installation will be on view during the day and in the evening, after dark. Please be sure you consider how effective your installation will present itself during both times of day.  If your project utilizes projection or light, how will it be activated and engaging during the daytime?
  • Proposals should not include design elements that require any significant alterations to the surrounding grounds.
  • Access to pathways must be maintained.
  • Do you understand and accept that any cost overages are your responsibility?
    For this reason, it is recommended that you not budget out to maximum awarded, leaving room for material price fluctuations or other unanticipated needs.
  • If your project is selected, it is recommended that you enlist other students to help realize this project and will be asked to provide a listing of others involved.
    Do you have other individuals who will get on board with your project should you be selected?
