Takumi Kakimoto is an award-winning pianist and composer based in Boston. He was awarded full-tuition scholarship from Berklee College of Music and graduated with B.M. in Jazz Composition and Piano Performance in 2019. During his studies, he received a number of awards from the college and has studied with Greg Hopkins, Ayn Inserto, Tiger Okoshi, Jeff Covell, Alla Elana Cohen, among others. He has performed and presented his original compositions at various venues such as Provincetown Jazz Festival, Jozenji Street Jazz Festival, Museum of Fine Arts and Berklee Performance Center. He was selected as a starring performer and led a trio, opening for 80's icon Molly Ringwald at Provincetown Jazz Festival in 2017. In 2018, he was chosen as the recipient of a three-year long career grant from Yamaha Music Foundation, based on his accomplishments both as a pianist and composer. In the same year, his composition was performed by the U.S. Army band Airmen of Note in the 2018 JEN Young Composer Showcase by Jazz Education Network in Dallas, TX. He is a winner in the 2019 and 2020 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards and received Honorable Mention in 2018. Currently, besides his own performance and composition activities, he works as a pianist for a number of organizations in Boston such as Boston Ballet, Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory. He has also been teaching private piano lessons in the Boston area.
