Evens Joseph "EJ"
Evens “EJ” Joseph is a seasoned performer, instructor, and community leader, and the founder of EJ Dance Studio in Brockton, MA. Born and raised in Haiti, EJ began teaching local youth and choreographing performances by age 10 and by 16, he was formally instructing Latin and ballroom styles in local clubs and studios. After moving to the U.S. in his 20's, he toured for three years with the acclaimed group Noche Latina, performing in Boston, New York, and throughout the Northeast.
EJ’s dance journey soon became a vehicle for social change. Disturbed by rising tensions in local nightlife scenes, he began offering free dance lessons in clubs, teaching not just movement but also etiquette and respect. This community-based approach led to reduced conflicts and a growing reputation for using dance as a force for good.
In 2010, EJ opened his first studio in a high-traffic, underserved neighborhood in Dorchester. It quickly became more than just a dance space—it was a hub for community healing, grassroots policing partnerships, and dialogue. In 2019, he moved to a larger location in Brockton, where EJ’s Dance Studio now serves over 500 students annually, offering styles such as Kizomba, Salsa, Pasada, Konpa, Bachata, and more.
Known for his warmth and inclusive teaching style, EJ welcomes everyone—from shy beginners to seasoned dancers—and continues to use dance to build connection, confidence, and joy in every step.
