Chad Shabazz

A veteran of Boston’s freestyle dance and Hip-Hop community for over 20 years, Chad Shabazz is a recognized dancer/performer, educator, DJ, and MC. Originally from Cambridge, MA, he trained rigorously under Popping innovator Megatron and currently serves as Artistic Director for Slaughter House Boston. He has performed with dance groups such as Fusion, Phunk Phenomenon, Bulletproof Funk, Weapons Of Mass and New Skool Assassins, among others. He has opened for artists Rahzel, Dead Prez, and the Last Poets at African Liberation Show. As a choreographer, he has created work for Renee Marcou’s Don’t Let Go music video, the Funky Bunch, Radio Disney, and Somerville Hip Hop Festival. 

His credits as both dancer and MC within the freestyle battle scene is expansive. His battle wins include: winner of Mass Glory Freestyle Competition; Mixery K.O.; 3rd Eye Popping Battle; Fundamental Skillz 2v2 Popping champion; People Cypher Popping champion; and Fallout Jam Popping champion, among others. His dance competition credits include Prelude East Coast 1st Place; HHI 3rd in U.S.; BETs Blaze the Stage/106 & Park; First place Ring The Alarm 2011; 3rd place/Crowd Favorite WOD Boston 2011; and W.O.M. 3rd place at Elements.

As an educator, he has taught Hip-Hop and Popping at Boston Conservatory Berklee College, Deborah Mason School of Dance, Phunk Phenomenon at The Dance Complex, Dorchester High School, and Cambridge YMCA.
