Have you participated in Ceramics Materials Workshop classes and live in the Boston area? Would you like to spend some time with the For Flux Sake gang for an intimate Q&A and discussion? Well then, join us for a special recording of Flux U, featured on the For Flux Sake Patreon site. We dive deeper, get more personal, and explore the topics you want to know more about. After the recording, enjoy a more informal Q&A session where hopefully all your burning questions will be answered! 

Light refreshments will be served. 

Fee: $100 for Adult Community and Graduate Students, Free for Harvard Undergraduates. Registration is open now. 

Speaker Bios

Matt Katz

Matt Katz is a working ceramic artist with a BFA from Alfred and MFA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. His background includes working as a ceramic engineer and researcher for over 20 years including 15 years of teaching ceramic materials for artists at Alfred University. Matt is an experienced online educator who loves to use his knowledge of art and engineering to make ceramic science understandable for makers of all experience levels. 

Rose Katz

Before CMW, Rose worked in the tile industry as a clay and glaze engineer for over 10 years after receiving her BFA from Alfred in ceramic art. She also spent many years as an independent artist and production potter. Rose’s maker and industry experience combined with her love of ceramic materials makes her background and knowledge truly special. ceramicmaterialsworkshop.com

Kathy King 

Kathy King is an active studio artist in the Boston area, an instructor, and the Director of the Ceramics Program - Office for the Arts at Harvard. She received her MFA from U. of Florida and has been an educator, in both academia and workshops, in the field of ceramics for over twenty-five years. The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) has featured King as an Emerging Artist, demonstrating artist, panelist and co-juror for the Emerging Artist Fellowships. She was awarded a Brother Thomas Fellowship, Boston, MA, a residency at the Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Center in Japan, the Archie Bray Foundation in MT, the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in ME, and the Winter Residency at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. kathykingart.com

Ben Carter

Ben Carter is a studio potter, educator and podcast host/producer based in New Jersey. He received his BFA from Appalachian State University and his MFA in Ceramics from University of Florida. His professional experience includes residencies at Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT, Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO, as well as Education Director of the Pottery Workshop in Shanghai, China. He has authored two full-length books, Mastering the Potter’s Wheel and The Complete Guide to Low-Fire Glazes for Potters and Sculptors. In addition to his own studio practice, he is the creator/host of the Tales of a Red Clay Rambler podcast, where he interviews artists about their craft, creativity and lifestyle as well as editor and producer for For Flux Sake podcast. carterpottery.com/about
