Bio: Cecilia Dunoyer’s 1997 New York debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, performed to a sold-out audience, garnered rave reviews. Harris Goldsmith praised her “accomplished pianism … her elegantly assured prestidigitation… her firm, richly bronzen tone and an unmistakable ear for orchestral textures and colors. If Fauré was well served by Ms. Dunoyer, her Debussy proved even more impressive…” An invitation to perform in New York again at Merkin Hall followed in May 1998 in a program of 20th-century French and Japanese music, which The New York Times most favorably reviewed. Cecilia Dunoyer has concertized extensively in the United States and her native Europe, including recitals in New York, Washington, Boston, Paris, Vienna, Weimar and a 1998 tour of the Baltic Sea to Russia, Finland and the Scandinavian countries. In August 2012, an invitation to play the Ravel G Major Concerto with the Orquesta Metropolitano de Cordoba at the Teatro del Libertador became the first of several concert tours in Argentina. Re-engagements include series of concerts and master-Classes in 2013 and 2017 in Cordoba, at the Conservatorio and the Espacio Cultural Pierrot Lunaire, as well as surrounding towns. Argentina’s Pro Arte Fundacion invited Ms Dunoyer to present a recital with violinist Juliette Greer at the Teatro Real in 2018, and to work with students in El Sistema youth orchestras. Critics noted “perfect complicity” and a “remarkable alchemy between rigor and freedom” in Dunoyer’s frequent chamber music collaborations. Her Two-Piano Duo with Marylène Dosse features programs on French music. In June 2012 the Duo performed at the Penns Woods Festival and for the Mois Molière, in Versailles, France. Dunoyer performs regularly as a soloist with orchestra in concertos ranging from Mozart to Ravel, Poulenc, Prokofief and Gershwin. In 2011, Ms. Dunoyer was invited as pianist-in-residence at the prestigious Monteux School of Conducting in Maine. Her expertise on French music has led to regular appearances at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. A series of eight concerts and lectures entitled “A Century of French Music” was so enthusiastically received that Dunoyer returned for lecture-recitals series on Claude Debussy, on “1920’s Paris”, on Francis Poulenc, Erik Satie, and Maurice Ravel. Cecilia Dunoyer is the author of Marguerite Long, A Life in French Music published by Indiana University Press in 1993, and simultaneously translated in French and released in Paris the same year (Editions Findakly). The book has received critical acclaim and an interview with Dunoyer was featured on “Performance Today” on National Public Radio. Ms. Dunoyer was also the guest for a series of ten radio shows for Radio-Canada, of the CBC in Montreal. February 2000 marked the publication of Debussy in Performance (Yale University Press) in which Dunoyer was invited to write about early performances of Debussy’s piano music. The book has been acclaimed in the London Literary Times and includes contributions from performers and scholars alike, including the eminent Désiré-Emile Inghelbrecht, conductor and close friend of Debussy. Following her studies in Paris with Pierre Sancan, a scholarship from the University of Michigan led her to study with the great Hungarian pianist, Gyorgy Sandor, earning Bachelor's and Master's of Music degrees with High Distinction from the University of Michigan. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland in 1990, studying with Thomas Schumacher and Stewart Gordon. An Associate Fellow of Silliman College, Yale University (1984-2004), Ms. Dunoyer has also served on the faculty at Penn State University. She teaches a full studio of private students, who have won competitions and gone on to colleges such as Yale, Harvard, MIT and major state universities. A French-American dual citizen, Cecilia Dunoyer grew up in Libya, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France. Ms. Dunoyer currently resides and teaches in the Boston area. She is the mother of three grown children, François, Emile and Juliette.
