Class Description

If you have ever been curious about trying Indian classical dance, here is an all-levels class that will introduce you to the southern Indian classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. Learn the fundamentals and coordination of traditional dance movements that combine footwork, hand gestures, eye, and neck articulation.

Students will also learn the art of storytelling using facial expressions and hand gestures, as well as the history and spiritual connection of the art form. Each class will include warm-up exercises that strengthen leg muscles as well as phrase work that will build towards a short-form piece. The last class will be an informal showing of the piece learned for invited guests.
