Course Description: How do we transition our studio practice into a small business? What are the considerations we must make about our work, our practice, and the day-to-day running of a creative business? Through group discussion and critique, exercises, and an individual project we’ll review the essentials for a creative business and develop a framework for a future as a creative professional. Class sessions will be divided between group discussion and studio time, in which students are encouraged to work on their project. Mid-way through the course, students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of photographing ceramics for website and social media with guest lecturer, photographer/craftsperson Rebecca Ickes Carra of The Maker’s Playbook. During the last session students will present their finished work and strategies for business launch based on the topics covered during the class.
