Jessica Brandl

2014- 2015 Artist in Residence, Ceramics Program
Jessica Brandl

Jessica Brandl, a native Midwesterner, works in ceramics, drawing and painting.
Set in landscapes with looming architecture, turbulent skies, and misplaced objects, Brandl’s work exposes historical and eccentric places engulfed in psychological scenarios - both sinister and sublime. Surprising spatial arrangements and disjunctive scale shifts support a voyeuristic sense of seeing things from the inside out. Her current work of functional terracotta cups and platters serve as pointed souvenirs of history and the path to American-ness.

Jessica Brandl attended Concordia University for Drawing and Painting. She then attended The Kansas City Art Institute to study ceramics and art history earning her BFA. Brandl received her MFA from The Ohio State University and is the recipient of awards including the Fergus Scholarship Award, and Fergus Installation Grant.  She has been awarded numerous residencies including The Armory Center in Palm Beach, FL, the Watershed Center for Ceramic Art in Newcastle, ME and, most recently, the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT.  After her residence at the Ceramics Program, she will be in residence at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN.
