Surface Master Class with Miranda Shackleton Thomas
Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16
10am – 4pm each day with potluck lunch
Hone your surface skills and eye for design with world renowned potter Miranda Shackleton Thomas. Thomas will teach us how to use rhythms, spaces, dividing up shapes and symbolism to help build up patterns. The first day will involve Thomas demonstrating her use of slips, inlay, freehand drawing, carving, brushwork, building, and dissecting patterns. Emphasis will be placed on brush work and exercises will be given to become familiar with all types of brushes and the stokes produced on paper, and later in the day, progressing onto pots. The second day invites participants gain confidence in applying the demonstrated surface techniques to their own pots. Participants will be invited to bring leather-hard and bisque pots with them to try their hand with techniques shown.
Workshop Cost: $150 for those enrolled in a Summer 2019 course; $100 for Harvard graduate students; $200.00 for those not already enrolled in a course; free for Harvard College undergraduate students. Register online here.
