Visiting Artist Lecture with Eric Kao

Over the last ten years, ceramic scholars and artists have become aware of the vast array of opportunities that study in Jingdezhen, China can provides. Join us in welcoming Eric Kao, the Director of The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, located in Jiangxi Province, China to learn more about his organization and the rich heritage of his home city. An active artist and former New Englander, Kao will share his own work and address the impact the change of environment has made on it during his career.

Artist Biography:
Eric Kao is the Director at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, located in Jiangxi Province, China. After receiving his M.F.A. in Ceramics from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, he was granted an opportunity to work in the world famous porcelain producing city of Jingdezhen. As a result of accommodating the demands prescribed by a progressive company in an evolving city, Eric has committed all his creative energy into fostering growth within the 6 departments at The Pottery Workshop since 2009. While in China, Eric has been active with exhibitions in China, Japan and the United States. He has been selected as an invited artist by the Archie Bray Foundation (USA, 2011), a guest curator for University of Florida (USA, 2013) and a guest artist at the Shigaraki Ceramic Culture Park (Japan, 2014). Originally from California with a passion for culture, travel and ceramics, Eric utilizes his ceramic expertise paired with his cultural sensitivities in order to promote growth within his creative practices, both as an administrator and an artist.
