Presented by: Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard
Summer Chen recently completed a month-long residency program in Jingdezhen, the world’s porcelain capital, where she re-examined her culture through the eyes of a ceramic artist. During her talk, Summer will present images and videos of ceramic factories she visited, discuss the process of making work in Jingdezhen, talk about the work she made while she was there and share detailed information about all the residency opportunities in town.
After moving to the U.S. from China in 2011, Summer graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and soon worked as a solution analyst at a healthcare software company. She currently works as a studio and teaching assistant at the Ceramics Program at Office of the Arts at Harvard where she is exploring mold-making, ceramics and mixed media.
The “New Voices Lectures” are an on-going series highlighting some of the most talented emerging artists utilizing the ceramic medium in the field of contemporary art.
