Master Class with Bennyroyce Royon

Headshot of Bennyroyce RoyonJoin Filipino-American choreographer Bennyroyce Royon for an open master class on his unique contemporary dance practice and process. Explore ideas, devices, and movement specific to his new work "LAND, LOST, FOUND" which explores identity, re-rootedness, and finding common ground. The work  will premiere on October 10-12 at Gibney Dance in New York City. 

Royon will lead a short warm-up and guide dancers through various improvisation techniques. Dancers are encouraged to be generous and limitless with their curiosity, physicality, and energy. 

For all levels of experience and open to observers. Participants must be age 18 or over. 

Attire: Participants are encouraged to bring knee pads; wear comfortable clothing you can move in; socks or bare feet. 

Participation is free, but due to limited class capacity, online registration is required for both participants and observers. 


Harvard Dance Center Master Classes are open to the Boston dance community, with priority given to Harvard University Undergraduate students. 

This master class is part of the Harvard Dance Center's Fall 2019 Visiting Artists Series, supported by the Office for the Arts.

Bennyroyce Royon is a Filipino American director, choreographer, dancer, and educator. He is the founder of Bennyroyce Dance, a project-based contemporary dance company based in New York City that cultivates multidisciplinary collaboration and inspires collective innovation. He is also Artistic Director of Evergreen City Ballet in Renton, Washington. 

 Royon received a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School in 2006. As a performer and collaborator he has worked on Broadway (The King and I), Off-Broadway (Artist of Light), at The Metropolitan Opera (Madama Butterfly, Turandot, The First Emperor), at the New York Philharmonic (The Cunning Little Vixen), and with dance companies including Armitage Gone! Dance, Sidra Bell Dance New York, Carolyn Dorfman Dance, Alaska Dance Theatre, The Nilas Martins Dance Company, Collective Body Dance Lab, Cas Public, and Bad Boys of Dance.

 As a choreographer, Royon has created original works for Atlanta Ballet, Ballet Hispánico, Point Park University, The Joffrey Academy of Dance, and the New York Philharmonic among others. He has taught at various dance schools, universities, and programs in the US and Europe. His company, Bennyroyce Dance, has received multiple residencies in New York City and Seattle.
