This spring, Lowell House Opera will bring to life one of Richard Staruss’ most gorgeous and soaring works. When the richest patron in Vienna accidentally double-books a cast of uptight opera singers and a troupe of bawdy comedians to perform on the same night, hijinks ensue in whacky, charming, and satirical battle between high- and low-brow art and entertainment!
This will be LHO’s final year in residence in the Lowell House dining hall before a two-year-long renovation process, so we have chosen this opera to resonate with a very bittersweet moment of change for the Lowell House community. In tribute to Lowell House Opera’s transition, our production will include many visual references to Lowell House’s culture and tradition, and will provide a comedic and compelling exploration about why on earth we would still bring people together to stage an opera in a dining hall after all these years. Truly, this year’s Lowell House Opera promises to be a delightful–and nostalgic–experience for all.
Performed in German with English supertitles.
