loveconjure/blues by Sharon Bridgforth is an experimental performance novel following a community of black women and queer folks and their ancestors in a blues joint in the south. It is a celebration of the ways that black people have survived, remembering and re-membering black love and black ancestry and praising the musicality of black life and language. The piece draws on non-linearity, the west african griot story-telling tradition, ancient ritual, and theatrical jazz theory. In loveconjure/blues, “the past the present the future the living and the dead co-exist together/at the same time in a weave of dreams/Prayers/Love/Spirit expressed.”

Run time: 2 hours with intermission.
