Roger Bland, former Keeper of Coins at the British Museum and Founder of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, will deliver this evening’s lecture.
Presented by: Harvard Art Museums
Admission: Free. Following the lecture, the ancient art galleries will remain open until 8 PM.
Museum Hours: Open daily 10am–5pm
After surveying the study of Roman coin finds in Britain from the 16th century to the present, Bland will discuss how the 1996 Treasure Act and the project called the Portable Antiquities Scheme have made it possible to easily record and interpret recent finds, and how those interpretations have led to a deeper understanding of finds from the past. Bland will conclude by presenting selected results of a research project to study hoards of Iron Age and Roman coins from Britain.
The lecture will take place in Menschel Hall, Lower Level. Please enter the museums via the entrance on Broadway.
