Jake Armerding is an American folk musician from Boston. He plays mostly acoustic string instruments including the mandolin, acoustic guitar and fiddle. He played with the band Northern Lights from 1990 until 1999, when he left to pursue a solo career. In 2001, Armerding won the Best New Artist Award from Boston’s folk-radio station, WUMB.

Today, he makes up half of a duo, The Fretful Porcupine and is a member of bluegrass band Barnstar!. Armerding also serves as a faculty member of the Traditional Music Project housed at the Real School of Music in Burlington, Massachusetts. Most recently, Armerding played violin and mandolin in the ensemble for the audiobook version of Josh Ritter’s Bright’s Passage.
