H.M.S. Pinafore; or, the Lass That Loved A Sailor
Presented by Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert and Sullivan Players
The crew of H.M.S. Pinafore is busy preparing their ship for voyage. Josephine, the captain’s daughter, loves a lowly sailor, Ralph Rackstraw — but, to please her father, plans to hide her love from Ralph and marry Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty, instead. Little Buttercup, who sells trinkets to the sailors, carries her own secret, which promises to upset the orderly ranks of the ship’s crew. Engagements, elopements, and England are entangled in this hilarious maritime caper. Pinafore, which includes such songs as “He is an Englishman,” “Sorry Her Lot,” “We Sail the Ocean Blue,” and many riotous chorus numbers, was instrumental in shaping musical theatre, and delights audiences to this day. Join us for one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s best known operettas! All aboard!
