American BeatboxerThe Office for the Arts at Harvard Learning from Performers program and the Harvard Ed Portal  are proud to present a screening of American Beatboxer followed by a discussion with producer Rich McKeown and executive producer and beatboxer Chesney Snow, moderated by Martha Diaz. More information

Documenting one of the most neglected genres of hip hop culture, American Beatboxer depicts the first-ever American Beatbox Championship. The art of beatboxing is vocal percussion: producing drum sounds and beat patterns using the lips, tongue, mouth, throat, and voice. Contestants of all races and from all over the United States competed in the 2010 Championship, with the film portraying the artistry and dedication of the eight finalists. Filmmakers Chesney Snow and Rich McKeown will offer a post-screening conversation moderated by Martha Diaz, Nasir Jones Hiphop Fellow at the W.E.B. DuBois Research Institute at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard.

Just one day later, don't miss the beatboxing workshop featuring Chesney Snow, award-winning actor, beatboxer, poet, musician and songwriter, on Saturday, October 21 at 3 PM at Lowell Lecture Hall, 17 Kirkland Street, Cambridge.

Film screening admission: Free; seating is limited, first come, first served, subject to venue capacity. RSVP required. Reception following.
