The Arts and Andes & Southern Cone Program at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies and the Department of Music at Harvard University cordially invite you to a series of concerts and events featuring Ecuadorian composer Mesías Maiguashca, one of the leading figures in electronic and electroacoustic composition in Latin America. Of indigenous heritage, his music often locates Andean perceptions and sounds within the frameworks of Western experimental music. His music challenges listeners to confront the exclusion and violence that Andean indigeneity has suffered since colonization, and its uncomfortable absence in the canons of experimental music.
*A collaboration between the Harvard Music Department and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS), the GLAM (Group for Latin American Musics) Concert Series is designed around the promotion of Latin American music on the Harvard campus and broader Boston community through an annual concert and associated master class. GLAM is an initiative of Harvard’s Music Department graduate students Daniel Walden, Julio Zúñiga, Diane Adamek Oliva, and Felipe Ledesma Núñez, under the mentorship of Carol Oja, William Powell Mason Professor of Music.
