Calamus is an original play inspired by Walt Whitman’s poetry. It follows the journeys of Walt, a teenager just out of the closet, and Ford, a young African-American trans poet, as they travel across America and into the past. The play showcases the many faces of the BGLTQ+ community today and their relationships with queer history in America. The production will kick off the semester as a staged reading in Leverett Library Theater and includes segments of slam poetry, song, and voiceover.

Run time: 80 minutes with no intermission. All performances are free.
