Angélique Kidjo, the three time Grammy Award winner and singer/songwriter/activist who combines “village traditions,” “cosmopolitan transformations” and “female solidarity” (The New York Times), has been named the 2018 Harvard University Jazz Master. She will perform with the Harvard Jazz Bands on April 13 in a concert sponsored by the Office for the Arts at Harvard and the Harvard Jazz Bands (Yosvany Terry and Mark Olson, conductors).

Kidjo will also participate in a jointly sponsored Learning from Performers and Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School event at 5 p.m. April 12 at Lowell Lecture Hall. This town hall-style conversation -- Where the Girls Are: Arts activism around the globe -- will focus on girls lives internationally, and include the playwright Ifeoma Fafunwa (2017-2018 Mary I. Bunting Institute Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study) and humanitarian Aubrey Doyle (Dubin Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, MPP ‘18). Read more here about this event, which is free and open to the public.
