Course description: Discover the various techniques to design and produce one of a kind and multiple low relief, clay tiles. The class will include design techniques, working on a primary sketch, transferring the image onto clay, carving and cutting the tile using an assortment of tools. Simple and more advanced decorating techniques will be introduced including the use of mold-making. In addition to their own creations, students will design and make a mural intended for outdoor installation. Use of multimedia techniques such as using lightweight concrete or epoxied polystyrene boards will be discussed. The design and production will be done during the 2018 Spring semester and installation will occur at the beginning of the Summer or Fall. (10 classes/13 weeks)
Course Fee: $105 for Harvard Undergraduates, $210 for Harvard Graduate Students and $810 for Adult Community.
