Course descriptionJoin 2018-19 Artist in Residence Natalia Arbelaez with this introduction to ceramic sculpture including pinch, coil and slab building, surface modeling and design. Works may be inspired by both three-dimensional form, animal imagery, imaginative creatures, the human form as well as the vessel. Use of molds, slab roller and extruder will be demonstrated and wheels can be accessed during class. Surface techniques will be explored and a range of slips and glazes will be introduced. Potters may find this class a great way to integrate handbuilt elements to their thrown work (wheels are available though basic instruction on throwing will not be a focus of this class). (9 classes/10 weeks)

Course Fees: $125 for Harvard Undergraduate Students, $275 for Harvard Graduate Students, $875 for Adult Community, TAP Regular and Long Service - Follow instructions in online registration system.

 

Your course fee covers use of all clays (terra cotta, stoneware, sculpture body, porcelain), bisque firing, glazes, and glaze firing up to 8,000 cu. inches of kiln space, as well as 7-day access to the ceramics program and its equipment from the start date of your class through August 10th.
