Class Description

An all-levels class introducing students to the South Indian dance form, Bharatanatyam. Students will learn the fundamentals and coordination of traditional dance movements that combine footwork, hand gestures, eye, and neck articulation. Students will also learn to communicate using facial expressions to convey the meanings of song, as well as the history and spiritual connection of the art form. Each class will include a warm-up and dance movement that will lead to learning short dance pieces.

Relocation Note: Thursday, April 4th class will be relocated to the Office for the Arts 74 Mt. Auburn Studio. 

Suggested Attire

Something comfortable to move in, e.g. dance/yoga/workout wear, e.g. leggings, long t-shirts or tunics. Bare feet recommended. 

What You'll Need For In Studio Participation

Face masks are optional. You're encouraged to bring your own water bottle. 

What You Will Need For Virtual Participation

A minimum, cleared space of 3'X3' of hard flooring.
