## Class Description

An all-levels class introducing students to the rhythms, movements, melodies, and stories of Kathak, northern Indian classical dance. Kathak brings together dance, music, history, philosophy, math, physical and mental well-being, and so much more.

From the foundational technique, to decoding the math, to telling stories through the movement, students will learn the movement, cultural context, history, philosophies, and meaning behind Kathak.

Themes explored in classes will include:
\* Nritta – fundamental technique of Kathak
\* Natyam – theatricality of Kathak
\* Nritya – understanding the meaning behind the movement
\* Math - decoding the Math in Indian classical dance and music
\* Ardhanariswara – the concept of masculine and feminine balance within and without
\* Rhythm – the universal language of rhythm
\* Storytelling – creating stories through Kathak dance

Learn to clap, write, and recite counting sequences and compositions and explore how all of these components come together to create stories told through dance.
