Workshop Description:

In this workshop, Justin Rothshank will focus on making his own ceramic forms on the wheel. He will then introduce how to transfer imagery onto ceramic work using a laser printer and decal paper. An overview of image preparation, printing decals onto decal paper, transferring decals onto greenware and glazed ware, layering of decals, using commercial decals, and firing temperatures for various types of decals. You will learn how to use and fire decals in all kinds of kilns, and we'll specifically talk about electric kilns and soda kilns.

The Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard is pleased to announce the installation of a ceramic mural created by students of Instructor Allison Newsome for the CHA Somerville Hospital, part of the Cambridge Health Alliance.

This exhibition will explore the mysterious visual world of symbolism, a challenging and open-ended cultural phenomenon of the late 19th century. It formed an important bridge between impressionism and modernism, yet was more than these two movements. Symbolism sought to evoke ideas subjectively—through color, form, and composition—rather than objectively representing worldly appearances. The title of the show is inspired by Les Fleurs du Mal, an influential collection of poems by symbolist poet Charles Baudelaire, and thereby alludes to the literary ramifications of the movement....
