Rooted in the contemporary dance techniques developed in the 1970’s to the present day, this class begins by warming the body with attention to structure and fluidity in the joints. Movement phrases for small spaces will help students explore the body’s relationship to gravity, space, and weight. Emphasis is placed on approaching dance phrasework and improvisation, while developing aesthetic discernment and the capacity for play. No previous dance experience necessary.

Bharatanatyam

For students who have taken Bharatanatyam or have other previous experience with the form. Bharatanatyam II will build on the intricate pure dance movements that demand coordination and that combine footwork, hand gestures, eye, and neck movements.
