    Visit an Artist: Joanna Mark

    Handbuilt ceramic boxes with circle pattern design by Joanna Mark.Join us for a virtual field trip to an artist's studio! We will visit contemporary ceramic artists for a guided tour of their space, a demo of their process, and discussion about their work and how it has progressed throughout their career. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.

    This week we will be in our very own backyard with a visit to the home studio of Boston-area, ceramic artist Joanna Mark. Joanna is both a studio participant at the Harvard Ceramics Program as well an instructor of handbuilding themed classes. Joanna will demonstrate her process of creating boxes and planters with slabs and then applying her unique, textured surfaces to them.

    Event: Friday, July 10th, 2020 from 2pm - 3pm

    Cost: Free for Harvard Undergraduates. $25.00 for Harvard Graduate Students, Harvard Staff and Adult Community.

    During this 2-hour event, we will travel to San Francisco to the studio of Nicki Green. Nicki will be featured soon at LaiSun Keane Gallery outside of Boston. Gallery owner, Lai Sun Keane will be in conversation with the artist.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.

    We had a wonderful visit with Suze Lindsay in Session 1 and many of you reached out for a second visit to focus on surface! Once again, we travel to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina to visit the one and only Suze Lindsay for a special 2-hour edition of our series! Suze (scheduled to be a Demonstrating Artist at this year's National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts this past March) and her husband Kent McLaughlin work out of their studio Fork Mountain pottery, featuring the salt kiln that Suze uses for the beautiful surfaces of her work. Suze will welcome us to her studio for demonstration, discussion of her surface work and her career as a studio potter and educator.

    This week, we visit the studio of sculptor Christina Erives! Christina believes that ceramics as material has permanence, it is one of the ways we were able to learn about ancient cultures. There is so much beauty in these traditions and her aim has been to make a mark of her time that will be preserved in the history of ceramic objects.
