A “player’s player,” Cables will discuss his career during a conversation moderated by Ingrid Monson, Quincy Jones Professor of African American Music. “Anyone who is serious about jazz will tell you that George Cables belongs in the pantheon of the greatest jazz pianists,” Victor L. Schermer has written in All About Jazz. “Everyone, that is, except George Cables. Exceptional in every way, he is yet a team player. He sees himself as part of the rhythm section, and has always emphasized the group over the soloist.”
Mr. Cables' residency is supported by the Peter Ivers Visiting Artist Fund.
