    Harvard Night at the Symphony (Freshmen Only)

    Symphony HallFreshmen Only: You Are Cordially Invited to “Harvard Night at the Symphony”
    ADMISSION FREE AND LIMITED TO 50 FRESHMEN. Sign up for Freshman who did not attend the previous “Harvard Night at the Symphony” begins on Thursday, November 12 at 2 PM. Remaining tickets will be distributed to freshmen who did attend previously beginning on Tuesday, November 17 at 2 PM. Sign up in person at the Office for the Arts, 74 Mt. Auburn St. (at Holyoke St.)

    This series of free field trips throughout the academic year to attend concerts by the acclaimed Boston Symphony Orchestra at historic Symphony Hall is co-sponsored by the Freshman Dean’s Office “Through the Gates” program and the Office for the Arts at Harvard. Round-trip bus transportation will be provided, and the evening includes a pre-concert reception hosted by a BSO musician.

    November 21 Concert: works by J.S. Bach, Berg and Shostakovich, featuring Andris Nelsons, conductor, and Isabelle Faust, violin.

    Visit an Artist: Courtney Martin

    Courtney Martin potter.Join us for a virtual field trip to an artist's studio! We will visit contemporary ceramic artists for a guided tour of their space, a demo of their process, and discussion about their work and how it has progressed throughout their career. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.

    Studio potter Courtney Martin opens her studio to us from the mountains of North Carolina near the Penland School of Crafts. Courtney will share her studio life, her process and how she juggles being  mother of of two with her husband, glassblower John Geci.

    This week we will be traveling to Connecticut to visit Hayne Bayless at Sideways Studios for a special 2-hour studio visit! Hayne will be showing us around the studio and will demonstrate his process of making his beautiful hand-built vessels!

    This week we will be traveling to the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee to meet studio potter and educator Lindsay Rogers to see her studio, talk about her work and her advocacy for a more locally based sustainable food system.
