    Guitarist David Gilmore has performed and recorded with many of today’s most influential artists including Wayne Shorter, Steve Coleman, Christian McBride, Cassandra Wilson, Dave Douglas, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Randy Brecker, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke, Sam Rivers and many others. His latest release, Transitions (2017 Criss Cross Records) was one of Downbeat Magazine’s top CDs of 2017. He was also voted into the both the Critic’s Poll and Reader’s Poll of 2017.

    Gilmore’s playing has been compared to guitarists as diverse as George Benson and Jimi Hendrix. Gilmore has been the recipient of numerous grants, including two Chamber Music of America, New Jazz Works Composer Grants, and nominated for the prestigious Doris Duke Artist Award. Committed to an improvisational approach that reflects a global awareness, he conducts master classes around the world, and is a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston....     Ralph Lemon, is choreographer, writer, visual artist and curator, and the Artistic Director of Cross Performance, a company dedicated to the creation of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary performance and presentation.     Family of Man Revisited: Photography in a Global Age

    In this talk, Makeda Best, the Richard L. Menschel Curator of Photography, will be in conversation with Gerd Hurm, Anke Reitz, and Shamoon Zamir, editors of the recently published text The Family of Man Revisited: Photography in a Global Age (I. B. Tauris, 2017). Together they will discuss this landmark 1955 exhibition and how it shaped the ways we look at photography today; explore new contexts for interpreting the exhibition’s messages; and share recent research on its reception.

    Join us in welcoming California-based sculptor Michelle Gregor to the Ceramics Program for an evening demonstration and slide lecture. Gregor will lead students in sculpting the human figure in clay with a live process demonstration, improvisational exercises, and a slide presentation. Participants will learn the construction techniques to help push past the common stumbling blocks of proportion, movement, and balance in constructing the human figure. All skill levels welcome.
