Fred Herbst will give a lecture at the Ceramics Program on February 20, 2018.

A unique woodfired kiln was developed by ceramic artist and educator Fred Herbst in collaboration with the Corning Museum of Glass in 2008. This kiln design was built in order to fire ceramics and blow glass simultaneously using renewable wood fuel. Two kilns have been built, one at Corning Community College in Corning, New York and one at the Domaine de Boisbuchet in France, where they both continue to reveal new possibilities with clay and glass.

Visiting Artist Demonstration with Ben Owen III

    1:00pm to 6:00pm

    Location:

Ceramics Program, 224 Western Avenue, Allston, MA 02134

Presented by: Harvard CeramicsBen Owen III

Join us in welcoming master potter Ben Owen III for a half-day demonstration of his throwing process and lecture on his work and his role within the lineage of makers from Seagrove, North Carolina. Ben’s natural talent and unusual level of interest led to an apprenticeship with his grandfather and father at age 13. Through high school, he carefully studied the shapes, glazes, and traditions of the Owen aesthetic and learned to appreciate the history and legacy of generations of craft. This event, in part, celebrates the exhibition of his work at Pucker Gallery.

    Demonstration: 1:00-4:00 pm
    Slide lecture: 5:00-6:00 pm

This event is free to Harvard Undergraduates and Graduate students. For adults enrolled in a Spring course at Harvard Ceramics Program, the fee for this workshop is $20. For those not enrolled in a course for the Spring term, the fee for this course is $50. Download a registration form here. For questions regarding the event, email Kathy King, Director of Education at kking@fas.harvard.edu.
