Waiting for "Momentum" to hit...

by Minji Kim

Ever since my last drop-in at a "Momentum" rehearsal, I’ve been aching to see more— if not at a rehearsal, then at the real thing. So I had really good timing when I decided to sneak a peek again, and it turned out to be a full run-through, a nice compromise between a normal rehearsal and the actual show. They practiced about four pieces while I was there, and I can say with confidence that I fully stand by what I said in my last post about this performance.I know for a fact that the dancers have all been rehearsing five to six hours a day (maybe even more) for "Momentum," testing out and tweaking their parts, and their efforts really showed through in the full rehearsal. Seeing the dancers on stage at last, in dashing costume and with the lights dimmed, definitely inspired awe in me, but I was mostly impressed with how solid their moves were compared to the last rehearsal I attended. It was truly impressive to see how the tonality and theme of the music were played out into such surprising, powerful movement, all executed with confidence and accuracy. With the cast going through the entire production, I was able to see the separate parts that make up the show. I was really excited for these pieces, but because there were pauses in between the run-throughs for feedback from the choreographers, I couldn’t quite see the performance as a whole. I’m looking forward to see how everything is tweaked and perfected even more into one holistic dance medley.Seriously, forget that "Paranormal Activity" date you’ve been planning; if you want adrenaline, "Momentum" has it, in a non-disturbing way. The opening night is this Friday, November 6, at 8pm and will continue until Saturday, November 14.Stay tuned for how it all came together in the actual show! (Though you should really go RIGHT NOW to the box office, get your tickets, and see for yourself). And in case you haven’t seen it, here’s the trailer for the show: [http://www.youtube.com/v/MahOWiMZRPI&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0...
