Known internationally for its leadership in the field, the OFA Ceramics Program provides a creative studio and laboratory study environment for Harvard students, staff, and faculty, as well as designers, artists, scholars, and scientists from the greater Boston, national and international arenas. Award-winning artist Jon Imber, acknowledged as "one of Boston's most accomplished expressionists" by Art New England, teaches weekly Figure Drawing classes sponsored by the OFA in the Currier House Art Studio during fall and spring semesters. Priority is given to Harvard undergraduates; a limited number of spots are open to Harvard graduate students. A registration fee is charged. more...
The OFA's Public Art Program pursues explorations of public spaces by commissioning emerging or established artists to develop new work at Harvard. Artist lectures, student visits to project sites in the Boston area, and a co-curricular course in which students collaborate to create a work for the annual ARTS FIRST festival, guided by a Boston-based artist, are also part of the program. more...
The Department of Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) is the curricular home of a broad range of studio arts and more theoretical studies. The department offers studio courses in areas that include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, design, film, video, animation, and photography. VES also offers lecture courses and seminars in film history and theory, studies of the built and natural environment, design and urbanism, and contemporary arts. The Office for the Arts does not offer any curricular courses in studio arts.
